One of our mentors and a long time contributor to La Canada schools, Randy Boal passed away recently. Coach Boal supported LCHS, the students and athletics for over 30 years - first as a coach, then teacher and coach, retiring in 2007 as Athletic Director. The Class of 1976, was the first graduating class with four years of Randy's influence. He remained in contact with many of us, encouraging and always wanting us to do our best - attending class reunions and getting together when we crossed towns or we'd return to La Canada. Randy would always talk about how proud he was of what he students accomplished, of La Canada High School, and the Spartan sports teams.

While he "retired" from LC HS in 2007, he never really left the school. It was not unusual to see him pacing the sidelines - setting things up and making sure the game went on - up until COVID (long after he left full time employment). He wanted to ensure that the kids knew their effort was recognized, that teamwork would help them be successful in the future; and to help bring the community together to support youth, sports and La Canada schools.

A few of us got together virtually, and discussed ways we could do something that would be a lasting memorial for Coach Boal, and a reminder to the community of his impact on the community and all of us. We have reached out to the School Board, and to high school staff - to gain their commitment to name one of the Spartan athletic facilities in his honor (e.g., football field, softball field, locker room, etc...).

The purpose of this petition to is collect and provide a list of people that would support naming a facility at LCHS in Coach Boat's name. The list would be shared with the LC USD Board - as a demonstration of the people that may have been touched by Coach Boal's mentorship, over his 35+ years of service to LCHS.
