Shame on any developer -- anyone at all -- who would consider cutting down this tree. Think of your legacy, and of the history of our wonderful county. I would never work with a developer who does not honor the sanctity of trees.

Arlington County is fast becoming a large grey cement block. How can the county allow such a historic tree be destroyed. Shame on the developer and the county for allowing this. This is another instance where the county sees "taxes" over the best interest of keeping the county green and its historic gems. It reminds us of the constant battle one has to fight to maintain what makes Arlington so special.

Lost some magnificent old trees on Lorcom Lane due to development. Damaging the roots kills the trees and redevelopment damages the roots.

Protecting the tree during construction is vital. The tree will die if the builder covers the roots with fill dirt and especially if the dirt is packed which is common. Sadly, the tree will be endangered if the County puts in a sidewalk, too.

I t's a gorgeous tree. There is an oak at 6000 N. 27th St on the Champion's list; but the house there is red brick. Since the tree is right at the corner, I hope the developer can work around it. Bit development will disturb the root system and tree may die anyway.

The tree butchering seems to go on. Recently. here at N. Vernon Street Starbuck Realty cut down more than a dozen mature oaks, etc. on a hillside and the nice house on top of the hill to build an monster of a "barn-looking" thing into the hillside. We need some stricter county regulations to protect our natural environment.

This oak tree may not yet be an Arlington County designated "Specimen Tree" that has received protection under the County's Tree Preservation Ordinance, Chapter 67 (Trees and Shrubs) (see: http://environment.arlingtonva.us/trees/support-trees/specimen-trees/tree-preservation-ordinance/ ). If the Arlington County Board has not yet provided this tree with this designation and level of protection, I suggest that somebody who is interested in protecting this tree should submit a nomination form to the County that requests this designation.
