COMMUNITY SUPPORT FOR SAGARIKA KUMUDUNI – HUMANITARIAN AND COMPASSIONATE CONSIDERATIONS

This letter is a heartfelt show of community support for Sagarika Kumuduni and her family. We, as friends, neighbours, and members of the community, have learned with deep concern that there is a possibility that Sagarika, her husband Roshan, and their two young daughters may not be allowed to stay in Canada permanently after their current permits expire. This would mean that they may be forced to leave the life they have built here and return to a country where they would face significant hardship.

We want Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada to know that removing this family from Canada would cause profound hardship—not just for them, but also for their extended family here, their friends, their community, and most of all, their children, 6-year-old Oneki and infant Nethuki, who was born here in Edmonton in 2025. These children’s futures are bright if they can remain here in Canada, the only home they know and love.

Roshan first arrived in Canada in 2021 as a worker, and Sagarika and their eldest daughter joined him in 2023. Since then, this family has worked tirelessly to establish themselves here. Sagarika and Roshan are both hardworking, honest, and respectful individuals who contribute positively to our community and are determined to be financially stable, self-sufficient, and active participants in Canadian society.

Canada is now their only true home. Their friendships, their work, their children’s education, and their entire sense of belonging are here. To uproot them now, after years of dedication, would be devastating.

If forced to return to Sri Lanka, the family would face an extremely uncertain and painful future. The economic crisis, lack of job opportunities, and weakened healthcare system would make re-establishing themselves nearly impossible. Because of his need to provide financially, Roshan may be forced to go abroad again—likely to Dubai—leaving Sagarika and their two little girls to bear the separation and hardship alone. This would break the unity of a close-knit family and cause emotional trauma for the children, especially since they have already grown up in the safety and stability of Canada.

Here in Canada, they are safe, secure, and surrounded by a caring community. They are involved, friendly, and always willing to help others. Their absence would be deeply felt—not just emotionally, but socially—because they embody the values of kindness, resilience, and cultural diversity that Canada stands for.

We believe it is in the best interests of the children that this family be allowed to remain in Canada permanently. To send them away would not only harm their well-being, but also deprive Canada of compassionate, hardworking individuals who are eager to contribute even more to the country they proudly call home.

We, the undersigned, strongly support this application for permanent residency based on Humanitarian and Compassionate considerations. We urge Immigration Canada to let this family stay, keep them together, and allow them to continue building their future here.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
