We, the viewers and fans of The Vampire Diaries and The Originals series and characters, are supportive of: Klaus Mikaelson Elijah Mikaelson Rebekah Mikaelson Marcel Sophie Cami Hayley We highly enjoyed the backdoor pilot, Episode 4x20 “The Originals,” with the exception of one element: Hayley’s pregnancy. We enjoyed the fascinating and interesting exchanges between its characters. Seeing Klaus attempting to regain his throne and control of New Orleans from his own pupil Marcel was very interesting to watch and we look forward to seeing how this story develops. However, the plotline of Hayley being pregnant with Klaus’s child is neither something that we can or want to comprehend. The majority of its audience, even loyal fans, have The Originals on probation, planning to cease watching and supporting it, should this continue to be a serious plotline on the show. All in all, we feel that the pregnancy plotline is equally unnecessary and ridiculous. Once this plotline was revealed, many people turned their TVs off or switched to another channel; which is a shame because they missed some more supreme acting from Joseph Morgan and Charles Michael Davis in scenes between Klaus and Marcel. It was presented as a reason for Klaus to challenge Marcel and overthrow him, to “be his heir” once he resumes his place as King of New Orleans; however we feel it’s only purpose was cheap shock value. The conventional “baby drama” that comes from an unplanned teenage pregnancy is better suited for an all human show, not one with werewolves, vampires and the like. We feel there are many routes to take the character of Hayley with her own independent storylines with her place on this show becoming relevant in exploring her history perhaps (the long lost daughter of a powerful werewolf pack leader; a werewolf from Klaus’s werewolf bloodline, etc); not an overused pregnancy plot line, riddled with plot holes and alienating to the fans. We implore the writers and producers of The Originals to reconsider the backdoor pilot and to not pursue the plotline of Hayley being pregnant with Klaus’s child, and instead pursue some other plotlines with Hayley.
