I'm signing this petition because I know for a fact that the Italian authorities have a wrong person in custody on place of a well known notorous smuggler just because they both happen to share the same name and nationality.
I personally know and would like to witness that Medhanie Tesfamariam is a wrong person in custody. I know him, his family and we both are raised in the same neighborhood Gezabanda in Asmara, the capital of Eritrea. He is now a victim of a confused criminal investigations search. Arrested in Khartoum, Sudan and taken to Europe for a trial by the Italian Authorities. Medhanie is now in prison on the Italian soil for a crime he doesn't know beans about. Zero or nothing association he got with what they're trying to charge him. He is a wrong person being punished for a crime he never had committed. It's already been about three years. This is a real torture for Medhanie and us, his family and friends, to see that this issue is going on unresolved. This is injustice done by one of the EU member countries on this individual, thus we need a swift attention and solution for the issue.
Free, Free, and Free Medhanie and compensate him for all the physical and psychological torment he is undergoing right now.
