Plastic bags are everywhere. It seems no matter what you purchase you are likely to receive a plastic bag to tote your item home with. While many people may not think of their single plastic bag as being dangerous to the environment, collectively they are wreaking havoc on the environment. Plastic bags are extremely difficult to recycle which is why only about 5% are recycled annually each year. As a result the rest will either end up being discarded as municipal solid waste or even worse as litter. Plastic bags are light, toxic, and not biodegradable as they are essentially made of solidified gasoline. Each year many many animals especially aquatic animals will suffer a slow and painful death by poisoning or internal blockages caused by accidental ingestion. Since plastic bags cause so much harm and do so little good, these bags need to be banned in the U.S.! This can start with you.
