Americans recycle about 2% of the plastic bags we use. The rest of these bags (about 98 billion per year) end up in landfills, on the streets, or in the ocean. Putting a tax on plastic bags will pave the way for reusable fabric bags, drastically reducing our environmental impact on the world. Sign this petition and bring us one step closer to the ultimate goal: a complete cultural shift away from plastic. Once I get enough signatures, I plan on writing and sending a convincing letter to important government leaders and legislators. I honestly cannot believe how fast this is moving and it makes me think we might actually be able to change how people think about shopping for good. Those first few days were so quiet and I kept staring at the screen wondering if anyone cared but now it feels like the whole momentum has shifted into something way bigger than just me.

what about reusable bags though? some of those are made of plastic too. we need to make sure the alternatives are actually better than what we have now.
I gotta say good idea and good effort, but if you want to make a splash you'll need a lot more than 1,000 signatures. In fact you should probably read this page https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/how-why/step-step-guide
plastic bags aren't the only problem for this environment. another Huge problem is styrofoam. maybe we can work on that next?
THESE BAGS ARE EVERYWHERE. I see them stuck in the trees on my way to work every single day and it looks horrible. trashy.
I agree that plastic bags should be banned due to the amount of harm it has done to our environment

my local grocer already started charging for bags and honestly its not even that big of a deal. people will get used to it pretty quick.
