We, the undersigned, are property owners in the area , we believe that it is important to ensure that the development prioritises the inclusion of trees and plants in the parking lot and surrounding areas of the new mall.

Why Trees and Green Plants Are Essential:

1. Environmental Benefits: Trees help reduce air pollution, absorb carbon dioxide, and improve air quality. They also provide shade, helping to reduce the “heat island” effect caused by large expanses of tar.
2. Improved Aesthetics: Green spaces make urban areas more attractive, which can help increase foot traffic and create a welcoming environment for shoppers and visitors.

3. Economic Value: Landscaping with trees and plants can enhance property values and attract more businesses and customers to the area.

We request that the developers and planners of the new strip mall:

• Plant trees in the parking lot to provide shade and reduce the environmental impact.
• Incorporate plants and landscaping into the design of the surrounding areas to improve aesthetics and support local biodiversity.
• Ensure ongoing maintenance of these green spaces to keep them healthy and vibrant.

By signing this petition, we express our strong support for a sustainable and environmentally conscious approach to the development of this new commercial space. We hope the developers will consider these benefits and work with the community to create a more beautiful and environmentally friendly place.

I spent the afternoon staring at the empty expanse of asphalt where the mall is rising and it is even hotter than I imagined. The developers have not responded to my emails yet but I am gathering all these signatures to prove that our neighborhood refuses to become a concrete oven.

Seeing this kind of movement confirms that my neighbors care just as much as I do about the heat and concrete taking over our local streets. It is honestly humbling to know so many people want to see actual green space right where we live.

Always necessary! • Encourage urban biodiversity and urban ecology • Create shade • Reduce urban heat island effect • Link natural corridors • Reduce water run-off • Clean the air • Allow birdlife to thrive • Encourage urban reforestation of indigenous species "Everyone wants to park in the shade, but no one wants to plant a tree"

We live outside of the typical concrete block environment and the residents of Plettenberg bay value the nature this beautiful bay has to offer. A mall has been built very close to a vlei that is filled with bird life and other natural habitats. At least plant trees to support these natural habitats. Some integrity would be appreciated

Carparks need shade. Obviously. And the trees require decent space around them- don't make the same mistake as Market Square or main street Plett!

We need more trees and green in our public places, trees in a parking area not only have a huge value for natural life but also in hot month will bring cool/shade spots much need it!!

Definitely agree that this building needs more of a natural feeling. this is The GARDEN route after all. WAY more indigenous plants needed. bit.ly/4e4bkEw

It is unacceptable that the ecology of this once beautiful green space filled with fynbos and wildlife be entirely destroyed by another strip-mall. The planting of indigenous trees and plants should have been a requisite from the start.
