We petition Pittwater Council to build and operate a Pittwater Aquatic Centre.
********** To find this on-line petition Google "Pittwater Aquatic Centre" **********
Pittwater contains some of the most beautiful beaches and waterways in Australia. However, with privilege comes responsibility.
More children die from drowning than from motor vehicle accidents, yet Pittwater parents have to make their own arrangements, often in private backyard pools, to teach their children to swim. When children reach a higher level of proficiency, they have to travel out of area to progress their swimming
Pittwater contains some of the State's largest schools yet all must go out of area or use ocean pools for swimming carnivals or swimming tuition.
Pittwater's beaches are patrolled on weekends and public holidays, by hundreds of volunteer lifesavers. Yet when the season ends, these lifesavers again have to make their own arrangements to maintain swimming fitness during the cooler months.
Swimming provides one of the most balanced forms of non-impact exercise particularly for retired and senior citizens.
A well designed aquatic centre can provide these facilities as well as a community meeting place, child care, gym, café, a place for relaxation and communication.
Whilst an inner city worker has a choice of 5 year-round Olympic swimming venues for casual swimming or serious fitness routines, the growing number of home office workers in Pittwater have none. Sports such as water polo must travel out of area to train and compete. School swimming carnivals, squads and aquarobics are just a few of the many other groups who could make use of an Aquatic Centre.
We believe that it is now time for Pittwater Council to step-up and add an Aquatic Centre to its list of sporting facilities. A project that has been discussed on and off by Pittwater Council since its inception. Location and funding are not reasons to give-up. Many innovative proposals have and will be available once the Council takes this project seriously.
Signatories are invited to add their ideas and/or suggestions for a Pittwater Aquatic Centre in the comments box below or in the Blog via tag above.
We need to hit 500 signatures before I present this to the council. Text three friends right now and send them the link to sign so we can reach our target before the meeting.

Great idea. Good for the seniors and the kids alike. Long overdue for our community.

MY KIDS NEED SOMEWHERE TO TRAIN IN WINTER. Ocean pools are freezing and dangerous when the surf is up. We need a real facility.
