Pioneertown's Mane Street is part of an historic area of the Mojave Desert. It adds such charm and delight to the area and community. There are many areas that need and deserve commercialization that should be considered well before this unique gem.

As a long-time visitor and now homeowner in Pioneertown, I support preserving the unique flavor of the historical Mane Street with the adoption of the Pioneertown Mane Street Overlay . The uniqueness of old Pioneertown is a major reason for the tourism that supports small businesses in the community and thus the residents. Pioneertown celebrates the western movie history and gives a glimpse of the old west with its wild west shows, the Pony Express reenactment and other such experiences. Few such places remain. Pioneertown's Mane Street is on the National Register of Historic Places. Allowing development practices common to urban areas--permitting chain or franchise businesses-- in areas adjacent to the historic area would severely damage the character of the town. Residents and property owners are in favor of slow and sustainable growth that will maintain the community's historical character. Please support the Mane Street Overlay. Its adoption will protect the unique flavor of Pioneertown while also addressing issues such as land and building use, traffic and parking. This will ensure that Pioneertown's history and character will be preserved. Despite the ruts and dust, we like our dirt roads!

My husband and I raised our last 3 of 7 children here in Pioneertown. We have lived here a very long time. We moved here for it's unspoiled beauty and quiet community. We love our beloved community the people, our local businesses. Our family lost our entire ranch. Our neighbor Gerald Guthie died in the fire running to our property. Was found 200 yrds off the backside of our property. With our younger children all under 6 we rebuilt our home and property and returned our fruit and nut trees as well. We are still working on ranch, always. But our area, our community is so rare, beautiful and historically intact as a Historical Landmark and must be honored and treated and kept as such. We must not let people change our western community where we live and local business thrives. We loved here and planted deep roots. Go somewhere else and build your glammy campgrounds or awful business, or disrespecting our community where recently a fire was lit and a video was madecwith a DJ and they had no permits or had no business doing that. Keep our town simple, beauty that's why tourists and visitors come and also they come to ride their horses. Stop the development!!
