We are attempting to get legislators to pass the SB 796 Bill. The SB 796 Bill would allow prisoners to earn 10 additional sentence credits for each 30 days of incarceration for participation in certain programs; earning a GED, college credits, or a certification through accredited vocational rehabilitation programs or other interventional health, and sex offender treatment. Virginia prison population is at an all time high with crime rates increasing and education decreasing. Releasing prisoners early would save taxpayers money and help our kids have a better education. Prisoners are not asking to be released for nothing, we would like to earn additional good time by being better citizens and role models while being incarcerated. While in the process of being released we can be better men, fathers, and productive citizens upon returning to society. Being productive would mean staying free of an charges, completing programs and schools, and volunteering to help clean up prisons across Virginia.
