They actually did it and the piercing gun is finally being phased out which feels honestly surreal because I remember when I started this just thinking maybe five people would care. I am still processing that we pushed this through despite the pushback but please keep checking your local shops …
The piercing gun is a dangerous and non professional method of piercing. Problems include excessive trauma, scarring, acute hep c transfer, as well as improper placement, bad angles, and a plethora of other issues.
I really thought this might just float around in the void for a bit but seeing the momentum build makes me realize people actually care about these safety risks as much as I do. It feels surreal and honestly a little overwhelming to see so many people agreeing that these guns need to go away for good.

There should be no reason why a machine used to rag cattle should be used on infants against their will. It causes unnecessary trauma to the ear and causes a traumatic experience for the child. It is literally a form of legal child abuse.

I really wish I hadn't gotten my ears pierced with the gun. They messed up the positioning on my right ear piercing and whenever I tried to do my second piercing, it hit a nerve and I'd nearly faint. I've heard pretty bad stories.

This method of piercing is outdated, unsanitary, traumatic, and inappropriate. As well as usually being performed by an uneducated person. There are inferior materials used for the jewelry, and it is traumatic to the area pierced. Ignorant "professionals" are tempted to use these guns in unsuitable places as well. Such as the nostril and navel. It must be stopped!

Piercing guns are a leading cause of hepatitis and HIV infections in piercings, please ban them!! They cannot be properly sterilized with an autoclave!

Unsafe, dirty/unable to be sterilized properly due to plastic parts, can shatter cartilage, people who usually use them are not piercers, just retail workers who are not trained in bbp, etc etc
