Save Pleasure Island at WDW Resort
To whom it may concern. I recently learned that the decision makers at Walt Disney World Resort intend to tear down Pleasure Island at Downtown Disney, choosing to put up in it's stead more shopping and restaurants. I, and those who agree with me feel this is a grave mistake. I dearly love Walt Disney World; every nook and cranny of it. It is the one place on Earth where a grown man can believe in magic again and not feel foolish. And the greatest wonder of it all is that is a place for both children and adults. It is the greatest travesty of the place that you should choose to destroy Pleasure Island just shy of it's 20th Anniversary in 2009. Just as the Magic Kingdom is a place of escape for children, Pleasure Island is a place of escape for adults. It's a place where the not-terribly young can be young, the old can remember what it feels like to be 21 again. It's a place where we can dance the night away, or just hang out with our friends to good music. From the sadly removed Jessica Rabbit sign that let you know this wasn't your baby's Disney, to the live bands and nightly New Year's Eve fireworks that made us feel like every night was a party never to be forgotten. It is a place of my fondest memories with my friends. And now it goes, not with a bang of New Year's Eve Fireworks, but with a whimper in the night, unsung and unheard. We here that sign beg you not to do this. Disney has some of the finest restaurants and shopping in the world, it can do without a few more. And if you must replace it, grant Pleasure Island and those who love it a stay of execution. Give it the 20th Anniversary it's patrons and loyalists so richly deserve. Thank you.
