Picasso Street Speed Humps
Statement of Support
We, the undersigned residents and property owners of Picasso Street, Moreleta Park (Pretoria East) and the immediate surrounds, hereby petition the City of Tshwane to approve the installation of traffic-calming measures on Picasso Street, specifically:
- Speed humps along key sections of Picasso Street; and
- A mini traffic circle (roundabout) at the appropriate intersection as advised by traffic engineering guidelines.
- Persistent speeding and cut-through traffic on Picasso Street present an ongoing risk to residents, pedestrians, and children accessing nearby shops and services.
- On 22 October 2025, a vehicle collided with an electricity pole on the street, obstructing a resident’s gate. This incident was reported to Tshwane under reference number 6001304706, highlighting the urgency of effective traffic calming.
- The area features high pedestrian activity, driveways with limited visibility, and frequent turning movements—conditions where speed-reduction features are proven to prevent accidents and reduce severity.
As confirmed by AfriForum, the project costs will be covered by the community at no cost to the City of Tshwane. The community stands ready to coordinate implementation with AfriForum.
All that is required from the City is the letter of approval permitting installation in accordance with municipal standards.
This petition follows:
- A resident poll evidencing strong support for traffic calming; and
- Coordinated communication with AfriForum confirming their willingness to fund and assist with the project.
We respectfully request that the City of Tshwane:
- Issues the written approval for the installation of the speed humps and mini circle on Picasso Street; and
- Engages with resident representatives/AfriForum to confirm placement in line with City standards and traffic engineering best practice.
Prompt approval will materially improve road safety, quality of life, and protection of municipal and private property on Picasso Street.
