On 28th February 2010 Phil Dowd arguably cost Aston Villa the Carling Cup at Wembley. The Stoke born referee awarded Villa a penalty early in the game for a foul on Agbonlahor by Vidic yet failed to send the Serb off. The Villa striker was clearly the last man and was heading towards goal until he was brought down by the Manchester United defender. This should therefore have warranted a red card as he denied Villa a goal scoring opportunity. His dismissal could well have changed the whole course of the game. Not only did Vidic get away with receiving a red card, he even escaped a yellow card. He went on to receive a yellow card later in the match and could have therefore been sent off on two occasions. Surely it is time for this referee to come under review by the FA and it must be time for a video referee to come in to save teams from being denied a fair chance of winning a football match.

The response to this has been heavier than I anticipated and it shows how many of you are just as frustrated by these calls as I am. It is difficult to keep pushing when the authorities seem so detached but seeing this momentum gives me the grit to keep going.
