Petitioning the "RFH Reading Assignments, Rumson NJ 07760" Petition

If we want our kids to change the world, they need to understand it. Censorship is the quickest way to cultivate a generation of ignorant adults. Instead, let's support the teachers at RFH, who are well-equipped to help students grow into engaged and thoughtful adults.

Not all parents feel this way- not even most. We live in a town where people want their high school students doing college level work & this is what that entails . I'd much rather my child read one if these books and discuss its greater themes with one of the excellent teachers on staff at RFH then watch most of the garbage that passes for entertainment on TV/movies/media these days.

A dangerous and close-minded, paranoid idea! Banning books in not in keeping with an open society.

As an RFH graduate I am appalled that the censorship of books is rearing its ugly head. have far too many comments to make here, but I know others will do so about freedom is speech. As a practical matter, who will be making decisions regarding the "banned list"? Will the BOE be forced to approve a resolution and appoint a committee to oversee its implementation? Of course, any such ban would include books allegedly promoting violence, bullying, racism and sexism, right? Right?

This is a horrifying action. Attempting to control what can be read is the first step toward attempting to control what is thought.

Don't restrain the students from enhancing their knowledge

Is this an early April fool joke or has this neighborhood bubble become even more disconnected from the reality of the world we live in ?

Banning books is never a good idea.

This is ridiculous that high school students cannot be exposed to challenging and thought-provoking classic literature. The previously "banned books" from my high school have influenced my life and education beyond what I could have even imagined at the time. What a shame that some parents will "shelter" their kids so much that it ends up closing their minds. Disappointing and stupid to say the least.

I really enjoy discussing these books with my kids. Sometimes I even buy the book myself and read it with them. Their views are so interesting and they appreciate mine, as well. An open mind creates independent thinkers! Don't change a thing!!!!

Words are only way that we as a society are able to read the thoughts of others. Censorship of any kind is a bad idea. There are no bad words.

We don't have to agree with or like every book to learn something from reading. How will we know what we believe and value without hearing multiple points of view, considering alternate ones, and being open to new truths? Books expand minds and should not be banned.
