No books should ever be banned. Not only are you limiting your child's perspective on the world and not allowing them to become free thinkers, but you're trying to eradicate an idea/ a part of history/ art/ literature.

The assignment has been made. A parent is trying to remove certain books from the assignment. How are you thinking that that does not constitute "trying to ban any books"? In this context is not remove synonymous with ban?
When should I trust any one parent in this district seeking to ban certain books with the task of "trying to improve the quality of the books...assigned"? What pedagogy does she subscribe to?
Another error: your use of the word "staunch".

I appreciate your comment #Lori Quigley, but I am saddened by your spamming replies on this petition.
The language is abundantly clear. The original petition seeks “to remove books such as Cal by Bernard MacLaverty & Death & The Maiden by Ariel Dorfman from Rumson Fair Haven’s Curricula and any other material that is not age appropriate.”
If “remove books” does not equate to “ban,” then RFH English has done me a great disservice.

As a staunch supporter of the first amendment, I would have definitely signed your petition. However, you should know that RFH parents are NOT trying to ban any books. They are trying to improve the quality of the books that are assigned as required reading. Nobody is trying to ban anything. There is an significant difference -- in fact a giant leap -- between banning books and not requiring them. I would also argue that in this Information Age there is really is no such thing as a book ban. Almost every word ever written is available in a few clicks. Nobody seeks to change that, or ban the availability of books that students can freely choose in their spare time.
It is not a book ban. It's a campaign to more wisely use finite instruction time.

All my children graduated from RFH. We must not stifle intellectual growth of our children by censoring books in Highschool

This is absolutely appalling. Keep these kids enclosed in this "bubble" and see how they're gonna make it in college. Knowing nothing of what actual hardships and actual societal conflicts that get portrayed in the great literature that we were provided. Reading expands these minds, their vocabulary and their look at life all around. Stop enabling them to become lazy and let them immerse themselves in these stories. Oh, and while your at it, grab another copy and immerse yourself too.
