Dejuan is my younger cousin, and it is clear that he has made some poor choices but everyone deserves a second chance. Dejuan is a father of two young boys and he was also training to be a firefighter

This is wildly inaccurate. I'm about to convey the truth about this case according to the police reports and witness testimony.
But first -- Dejuan Joyner is a two time convicted violent felon -- yes! two violent felony convictions prior to his 30th birthday. His first conviction came in 2018 when he was convicted of a knifepoint robbery, all caught on video, of which Mr. Joyner was convicted. Anyone can look at Philadelphia's public docket and confirm this.
Secondly -- According to witness testimony in this case, a few months after Joyner got off probation for that knifepoint robbery, he was driving his Dodge Charger, racing another Dodge Charger on I-95 at speeds of 85 to 95 mph, when he hit a motorcyclist, almost killing him. This is what the witnesses said (one of them a black woman), not an invention of the DA.
That's not a "car accident," that is a first degree Aggravated Assault. Its a crime, not an accident. To make matters worse, Joyner committed a separate crime when he fled the scene of the the crash he caused, leaving the motorcyclist for dead. That particular crime is graded as an additional 3rd degree felony on top of the 1st degree felony.
As Mr. Joyner fled, the very same fire department Joyner claims to want to work for sped to rescue the motorcyclist, to clean up Joyner's mess as Joyner fled the scene at a high rate of speed. He didn't stop, call 911, nothing!
The motorcyclist suffered massive traumatic injuries all over his body, broken foot, broken back, many broken bones in the arm, and road rash burns all over his body. He was hospitalized in the burn unit and trauma unit for 10 days, he underwent multiple surgeries, he was out of work for months, and he's permanently injured and scarred now for the rest of his life.
For almost two weeks Joyner told no one about this incident, until the police began looking for him at his multiple addresses on file. Once he discovered that the police were looking for him,

This DA is ridiculous with this resentencing. . Definitely has made it personal and over stepping their authority. If the judge is fair, the sentence all readymade should stand.
Please see the good person Dejuan is. Yes, he was wrong and has been sentenced for that mistake. Adding more years to his time would be a harsh mistake.
