My parents bought our place in the river in 1967. I have never seen this lake this low this fast. There are three valves approximately 6 foot round. They were open 24-7 for years and it never got this low. They hired a company to replace them when I was in construction sales. The company hired me to get all their supplies since I lived here. After they finished. When all the valves were closed there wasn’t even a water hose running out. I thought to myself wow we will never get low again. Now I’m not a theorist but it rained 3 years ago and filled it all the way up. I know SAWS bought rights to the water years ago and since then in only three years it’s the lowest I have ever seen. Something is seriously wrong. I also lived in Rio Medina below the dam and understand it is an irrigation lake but all the big farms have sold out to subdivisions. So don’t tell me it’s because of irrigation. Someone needs to investigate where all this water is going before there is no lake. Either BLM or Medina county needs to look into this. Ps for all those pumping water from the lake to water your grass. Your part of the problem.

Need to get ahead of this before we end up like California. Stop the number of new housing developments and apartments. The more people that moves here the more water is needed for not only homes but for more businesses that are needed to support the people.

Medina Lake is a pivotal resource for Bandera county, both agriculturally and recreationally! More MUST be done to save this beautiful landmark of the Texas Hill Country community.

I think that the petition should also include wording relating to ongoing and timely maintenance of the Medina Dam in order to ensure its integrity over a fixed period of time, say to 2100.

Medina lake is situated over the center of the Edwards aquifer and when it’s drained it drops the water tables for the aquifer which is San Antonio’s spice of water. Farmers aren’t using Medina lake as a water source anymore! They have sourced other water! To prove this follow the canal and you will see it goes to one farm and open land and ranch land that doesn’t require it and is essentially being draining into pastures! Trust me keep the damn locks closed!

The ones responsible for managing this precious commodity have failed miserably in the past. Conservation, especially in Texas is extremely important.
