No one entity should have the power to decide the curriculum taught in our schools. Give that power back to the people where it belongs. That is why we have a system of checks and balances. Common Core takes that all away. NO TO COMMON CORE.

teachers have the right to determine what the children in their classroom should be taught. That's why they go to college and their education is geared to teaching children. Enough said!

I have seen what you call math for our children. Whatever happened to 2+2=4? Instead of having to write Hal of page to get the simplest and correct answer to begin with. With your common core parents will no longer be able to help their children with simple addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. I'm with the old saying of keep it simple! Now homework will take three times longer than it does now and some children with learning disabilities won't be able to process such a long and drawn out method. I am NOT for common core, I am FOR COMMON SENSE teaching.

In many ways education is failing in the US. This is a complex issue but additional centralization of curriculum is not the solution, it is the problem, furthering the gap between parents and teachers, and parents and their children participating in this terrible new "teach to the test" system.

We need to return education to local control with active input from parents and educators. Common Core and related testing need to be replaced by rigorous state and local guidelines and safe tests that do not undermine student morale.

Teachers report they are writing their own curriculum. Then why is there such dogmatic insistence on adopting common core in spite of all the protests from parents and taxpayers and in spite of bill 1490?
