My husband is a physician and is shocked today the Diocese would allow children to attend without vaccinations. The fears associated with vaccines are the result of social media accounts and have no scientific basis. The risks associated with not vaccinating children greatly outweigh the risks of giving them.

Our children should be protected. Just look at the areas of outbreaks where a number of foreign non vaccinated children live. We don't want that in MO.

I find it very disheartening that as a diocese we have given into the voice of one or two instead of looking out for the greater good. As a private Christian school our standards are and should be higher than the general population and with that comes the ability to require ALL students are vaccinated. If the children's parents do not wish to vaccinate their child they have that right, but we also have the right not to allow them in our school. This would be a kin to parents deciding that their child was not going wear the school uniform, but rather wear gym shorts and t-shirts. That would not be tolerated, and neither should we have to accept this if vaccines. The school does not allow children to wear whatever they want because it can be seen by all, but no one is aware of the children who are not immunized. We only prevent diseases by heard immunity, and children who are not vaccinated negate this. I work as a PA in Neurosurgery, and I know both Cox and Mercy require employees to be vaccinated or face termination. This is because reasearch has shown vaccinations prevent disease and death across all populations. I feel very strongly that the diocese do what is ethical for the whole of the community and enforce the vaccination protocol. More importantly if the diocese is not going to enforce this policy then it is their responsibility to inform all of the parents so that they can decide if they would like to keep their children in classes with possibly unvaccinated children, because as it stands currently the parents are under the understanding that all children are vaccinated.

Not vaccinating children without a clear medical exemption puts many others at unnecessary risk, including children too young to be immunized, pregnant mothers, and those whose immune systems are compromised.
