The Goal. To reduce the environmental impactof plastic by encouraging yogurt companies to stop using plastic yogurt containers.

The Problem. Every year, millions of marine animals are suffering due to unrecycled plastic wastes. One of the products that aggravate this is single-serve yogurt. While convenient, these small yogurt containers leave even more carbon footprint, simply because most of them have plastic labels and seals that we can’t help but throw away, and they are very small that consumers simply cannot find other means to reuse them.

The Solution.Companies should start exploring options when it comes to selling their yogurt. For instance, they can use biodegradable containers. If that is impossible, they should at least stop producing single-serve yogurts, because they usually require more energy to produce. Also, because these containers are small, there’s an even smaller chance that they will get recycled compared to the bigger yogurt tubs.

Meanwhile, if you want to create a bigger impact, consider making your own yogurt at home. Buying yogurt all the time can be expensive, and you are limited with the flavors that the store offers. Store-bought yogurt may also be laden with sugar and preservatives. Making your own at home allows you to save money, experiment with the flavors, and most importantly, you can live in peace knowing that somehow, you’re helping save the world.
