This message and petition is respectfully addressed to Square-Enix, specifically those involved in the making of Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. We the undersigned take issue with the sexualization of the main character of this game and the Final Fantasy XIII saga, Lightning Farron. Whilst Lightning Returns is a welcome and anticipated title, it must be said that recent announcements, specifically the enlargement of the main character's breasts and their so-called "jiggling", has become an issue of concern. Of some additional concern, is the Miqo'te victory pose, which even Motomu Toriyama stated was uncharacteristic of Lightning. It is the humble wish of the undersigned that these features be removed from the game, ideally in their totality. We feel this to be necessary in order to preserve Lightning's character. Whilst she is indeed beautiful, Lightning had never been a character with "sex appeal", in the sense that her body and looks were not the reasons as to why she became so prominent a Final Fantasy character. Instead, within the first two games of the XIII saga, Lightning was a more serious character who also possessed strength and a sense of elegance. It was due to these qualities that she had become a respectable female character within the Final Fantasy franchise, having ranked as first among the various female characters in the series within Japan, beating even Aerith and Tifa from Final Fantasy VII, in addition to Yuna from Final Fantasy X. Lightning has also garnered respect among fans in Europe, America, and elsewhere, again due to the same qualities. It little wonder therefore, that the reactions at least of European and American fans to the content under objection has been generally negative. With this in mind, it would be unfortunate to sexualize Lightning in the manner disclosed, for we feel that this would be a needless corruption of her established and popular character. Having said this, we would again like to respectfully request that this content be removed.
