Seeing these woods finally get the respect they deserve brings me such relief after watching so much unnecessary destruction. Final supporters
As a resident of the Chesterbrook Woods community, I highly value our beautiful trees and I believe that all reasonable efforts should be made to preserve our tree canopy. It has taken nature many decades to provide us with our tree canopy but it takes a builder only a few hours to destroy it.
I am greatly disturbed by the increase in infill development projects where houses are razed and most if not all of the trees are removed from a property, particularly where it is clear that some of the trees are being removed merely for the convenience of the builder and could be saved.
I understand that the CWCA Environmental Committee does not believe that Fairfax County is enforcing applicable tree conservation ordinances and the absence of enforcement is resulting in a substantial and unnecessary loss of our historic tree canopy.
I support the efforts of the CWCA Environmental Committee, in coordination with other local homeowners associations, to ensure that all applicable tree conservation ordinances are fully enforced by the County and to work for legislation giving the County greater authority to protect the tree canopy.

Seeing this community unite behind our old-growth trees proves that I am not the only one grieving for the woods being lost to these bulldozers. Your response confirms that these oaks define our home and we are finally forcing the county to pay attention to what we have been losing.

We moved into Chesterbrook Woods 18 years ago for the beautiful older, tall trees. We plan to be here another 20 years and believe it is up to our county and state governments to protect our environment.
A developer is getting ready to remove trees on N Stuart Street to build a house entirely too large for the neighborhood. The residents have been trying to work with the county on numerous issues with this development and the county always sides with a he rights of the developer (who does not live in the area) over the families.
We recently underwent renovations and were able to maintain the tree cover. We have also replaced any trees which we have had to remove due to age or damage.
It really aggravates me when lots are clear cut by all the developers which is against Faifax County law to start with but they are never fined the law is not enforced. We have lost large amount of our canopy in the neighborhood despite previous protests.
Tree canopy goes beyond aesthetics and property values; it goes to whether we are good stewards of our neighborhood for all who live here: humans, wildlife, and plants. A diverse ecosystem is stable and sustainable.
I fully support your effort.

Keep our canopy! It is one of the most unique things about this neighborhood and effects property values and the desirability of the area. Control development. We don't need to build monstrosities that will be unsellable and uninhabitable during the next economic downturn - particularly at the expense of our trees.
