Roads Service confirmed today that the proposed footpath installations for Townhill Road and the Rasharkin to Finvoy route are moving to the budget allocation phase. We have achieved the primary objective of this petition and will continue to monitor the project timelines until the work is finalized on site.

We the undersigned:

a) Call on Roads Service to have a footpath installed between Rasharkin village and St.Marys GAC on the Townhill Road. We believe that the installation of a footpath along this route would be beneficial to the people of Rasharkin particularly young people as the safety of the walk to the GAA grounds would be significantly increased.

b) Calls on Roads Service to complete the footpath provision between Rasharkin and Finvoy. There already is significant amount of footpath provision on this route and we would like to see Roads Service finish the job and ensure that those who use this route regularly to walk can do so safely.

Updates

November 11, 2015

I am currently drafting a formal letter to the local Roads Service office to present the specific safety concerns regarding the Townhill Road route. I have requested a direct meeting with the regional engineer to discuss the completion of the footpath projects between Rasharkin and Finvoy.

This would be great for all the community both from a safety point of view and for health and well being.

Rasharkin Bottom of List for everything, time to get this sorted before someone is killed or seriously injured, as usual it'll only happen once its too late and all politicians will then jump on the bandwagon! Prevention is better than Cure!

I have written to Ballymoney council twice over the past 3 years asking for footpath between Rasharkin and Finvoy. Most recent response in February 2015 from Roads Service 'we have a scheme listed to provide a footway along this stretch of the Finvoy Road. However it remains on a very long list of similar proposals in the Ballymoney BC area competing for priority into a future works programme. Given the current economic climate where funding for minor works schemes of this kind is very limited I am not in a position to give an indicator as to when this scheme might be prioritised onto a future programme'. Maybe if we gets lots of signatories we might get these much needed footpaths in our village.

Long long overdue. Need DRD to make this a priority given the safety implications for our young people in particular
