The Middlesex County Correctional Facility is in need of an expansion to increase the capabilities of its educational programming. Of the almost 1,000 inmates housed daily, only about 10 are able to participate in the HiSET High School Equivalency learning program to get their high school diplomas, despite there being an estimated 400 inmates without a high school diploma. The newly formed Middlesex County Correctional Education Association is seeking $25,000 to hire a new Spanish language educator and to establish a new classroom volunteer program to assist the current educator. We are asking the director of the Middlesex County Department of Corrections to add this to his next budget.
