Get your s--- together university officials! Markle is worth whatever "loss" you're going to take. As if you didn't get enough money from the students on this campus, who by the way work their butts off to come here! NMU is already in decline, why not put the effort where it is WORTH even if it will cost a bit more!? If every professor was like Jason, there would be more than just ONE petition for ONE professor. Shame on you for letting Mr. Markle and everyone else affected by this injustice go!

I have taken so many classes here at NMU and Jason Markle's Mythology class was the best class I have ever attended. It was once a week from 6 to 9:20pm. A lot of people have issues with taking a class that is that long, but for me the class period would fly by. That is in part due to how passionate Markle is about teaching. Class was always interesting and I was engaged and learning something new every class period. NMU needs more professors like Markle who is so enthusiastic about what he does.

Jason is one of the most passionate, helpful, and intelligent professors I've ever had. He clearly cares a great deal about his students and wants them to succeed in his classes and in life. I have only been able to take one class with him, but it was one of the best classes I've ever had. Jason was extremely encouraging and always available if I needed help or just had a question. It is obvious that he loves what he's doing and that he loves NMU. Jason Markle is a huge asset to the university, and it will be a huge loss if he is let go. I believe that a professor as talented, kind, helpful, and passionate as Jason Markle should be kept as a full-time faculty member at NMU.

Show respect and dedication to a person who not only contributed to NMU by pursuing degrees there, but has also worked to create a positive and inspiring atmosphere for students. It seems to me that investing in the professors who want to be at NMU and contribute to its success is morally upright thing to do, whereas pulling their contracts out from underneath them is selfish and small minded. It is important for administrative bodies to be aware of the example that they set, and to take their responsibilities seriously.

I had Jason Markle during my freshman and sophmore year at NMU, 2003-4.He has always been one of the most influenctial professor I'd ever experienced. I've recommended him to more students than any other professor at NMU. He created an atmosphere that made a college freshman that didn't enjoy writing or english look forward to every class. As a current contigent faculty at NMU I can't help but support Jason in some way, as this could be a similar future for myself. Thanks you, Jason.

Jason Markle, affectionately and casually "J", was an instructor for one class during my undergrad. He wrote a letter on my behalf for pursuing Graduate studies; at that time, apart from classes and jobs, I had been dealing with a handful of personal/community/family issues. He was always kind, attentive, and understanding. He humorously and/or calmly guided our class through a number of delicate situations when differences of opinion arose, or, specifically in one case, conversation of suicide was 'accidentally' overstepped. It is clear he cares about his students, people, he inspires others. His commitment and dedication should be honored.

The fact that a petition like this is even necessary saddens me. Jason was one of my favorite professors at NMU. Someone needs to hold the university administration responsible for this type of terrible decision making!

Those in charge at Northern need to do some serious evaluations about the 'moral' changes they think they are making at this university.

I've never taken Jason Markle's classes at NMU, but I've heard so many good things about him from students who have taken his classes. I would hate to see any professor as influential to students - and as loved by his students - as Jason is, no longer a part of campus just because of policies or for the sake of saving money. Let's keep Jason and his incredible enthusiasm for teaching a part of NMU's campus!
