Petition to Remove Restrictive Road Barriers in Front of BRIGHTS HARDWARE – Richmond Park

The current road layout on Southern Precinct Boulevard in Richmond Park, opposite BRIGHTS HARDWARE, is restrictive, confusing, and poorly designed. Limited access and unnecessary barriers are frustrating customers and creating dangerous conditions — with many drivers now resorting to driving up the wrong side of the road just to reach nearby shops.
To make matters worse, additional barriers have recently been installed that differ in appearance from the originals. These additions are not only impractical but also unsightly — contributing further to a poor overall experience.
This road layout was not created by BRIGHTS HARDWARE, but we face the consequences daily: unsafe traffic behaviour, missed visits, and lost business — not because of our service, but because of how difficult it is to reach us.
Customers have voiced their frustration, and this petition is a direct response to those concerns. We hear you — and we agree it’s time for change.
We are calling for:
- The removal of unnecessary barriers
- A properly designed traffic circle to improve vehicle flow.
- Safe, clearly marked pedestrian access.
Pedestrian safety is also a growing concern, with vehicles approaching from unexpected directions due to the poor layout and motorcyclists using the crossing as quick uturn exit. This puts both customers and passers-by at unnecessary risk.
To help enable these changes, BRIGHTS HARDWARE is even willing to offer a portion of our own property. That’s how seriously we take the needs of our customers and community.
Fixing the road will not only improve access to BRIGHTS HARDWARE — it will support all businesses in the area by making Richmond Park more accessible, functional, and welcoming to shoppers.
This petition will be submitted to the Atterbury Group, the developers, and the City of Cape Town ward councillor.
If you agree it’s time for change, please sign and support smarter, safer access for everyone.
