Dear Immigration and Customs Enforcement,
Stevens Charles has been detained at the Stewart Detention Center in Lumpkin, Georgia since October 2016. We believe that Stevens is an exceptional individual who fled his native country of Haiti out of fear of persecution. Stevens crossed the U.S.-Mexico border with his pregnant wife, who was released by CBP to come to New York and pursue removal proceedings. Stevens' child was born in Brooklyn this past year, while Stevens continues to be incarcerated.
We, the undersigned, are residents of New York City. We are members of the Haitian community, legal service providers to the Haitian community, social service providers to the Haitian community, and interested citizens. We ask that ICE exercise its discretion to grant Stevens parole into the United States, so that he may reunify with his wife and U.S. Citizen child in New York City, and with our support, continue to seek asylum in front of the New York Immigration Court.

I just saw the count tick up to one hundred and I honestly had to sit down for a minute because I never thought this would spread beyond just my immediate circle of friends. It is wild to think about all those people caring about Stevens and his family when things felt so quiet just a little while ago. This is actually happening and it feels like the momentum is finally shifting toward getting him back to Brooklyn where he belongs.

Stevens Charles should absolutely should join his wife and daughter, as Social Worker I seen what is does to daughter not been with their father's they became easy prey for predators. Please grant Stevens Charles parole into the United States and help save another women emotional well being.
I join Haitian Women for Haitian Refugees in asking that Mr. Charles be allowed to join his wife and child in New York.
As a new American citizen I urge all authorities to make sure all our immigrant detention policies put needs of the families involved first. It should be a humane policy that affords all the dignity and consideration we would all pray for if we were in similar circumstances.
Mr. Charles and his wife came to the US seeking refuge fearing persecution in his home country of Haiti. Currently he languishes in detention, separated from his wife and newborn son. We, his supporters, emplore ICE to do what is right and allow Mr. Stevens to reunite with his family here in New York City and be allowed to pursue his claim of asylum.
It is criminal that this husband and father of an infant child has been detained for over 10 months simply for being Haitian. Now is the time to release Stevens Charles!!

Refugees should not be persecuted here! Release Stevens Charles to an ankle bracelet or some other monitor if you must. He should not sit in jail at public expense. He is no threat.
