Petition to Reinforce the Proper Utilization of the Lisa Narcisse Performing Arts Centre and the Music House at the Immaculate Conception High School

I am Miss Pauline Gordon, a past Class Music Teacher, Piano Teacher, Glee Club Director, Head of Department and Coordinator of the Music Department at Immaculate Conception High School. I have served from 1978 to 2024, a period of 46 years. I retired officially in 2012, and because the Music Department is a very active one, Sister H. Angella Harris OSF, Principal, asked me to continue as a Coordinator. I continued until August, 2024. The Music Department has been achieving the vision of Miss Lisa Narcisse OD, Past Principals Sister Maureen Clare Hall OSF, Sister Mary Catherine Aarons OSF, Sister Angella Harris OSF, the other Franciscan Sisters, Vice-Principals and other members of the various staffs. The orchestra was started in 1994 with the great energy and drive of Sister Mary Catherine Aarons OSF. Major Joseph B. Williams OD, former Director of the Jamaica Military Band was the first Director of the ICHS Symphony Orchestra. The ICHS Symphony Orchestra has continued and has achieved great accomplishments under the able direction of Mr. Steven Woodham OD, renowned Jamaican Cncert Violinist and Teacher. The ICHS Glee Club, the school's choir, has continued admirably and beautifully under the direction of Miss Allison Wallace, renowned Pisno Teacher, Music Educator, Acompanist, Church Organist, and Choir Director. Other ensembles are the Concert Band, the Beginner Wind Class, the Beginner Strings Class for Violin snd Viola, Classes for Cello and Double Bass, and the Pop Band. Mr. Reuben Bernard has been the able Director of the ICHS Steel Band. Other tutors have made their contributions, naming a few more tutors: Mrs. Helen Bromley, Miss Keturah Gray, Miss Brian, Mr. Roel Miller Mr. Mickel Gordon, Miss Deborah Davidson, and Mr. Joseph Campbell.. I'm horrified and saddened by this misuse of the performing arts centre that puts instruments and proper use by music students at risk. Surely there are other spaces that would be more appropriate. As a an alumna and further music student and Glee Club member under the tutelage of Ms Narcisse, I urge the current administration to respect her memory, the centre that bears her name, and the expressed concerns of the music department.

Cessation of all the above

I'm a past student and this is so upside down! We weren't allowed at the music house outside of music class or music related activities after school and carrying food into the music house was a punishable offence!

Preserve the music centre and expel the rodents. The sports must find a more suitable space for their activities.

Please respect the purpose of the Lisa Narcisse Center .

I agree food has to be kept out of area to avoid damage to the expensive instruments.

This is a space that serves an important role to hone the talents for musical excellence, and should be considered a sacred space that is fully sequestered for its intended use.

Now, more than ever we need to work to preserve the Arts!

Let's work together to resolve this quickly.

This, should not be necessary. It's disheartening to see my school's administration disregard a core part of my experience at Immaculate and I cannot imagine why they would try to hinder the development of the orchestra, an iconic feature of Immaculate, in such a way.
