Petition to Reform Dress Code

Almost every middle and elementary school has one. Except, the dress code has gotten strict. Too strict, at least for me. You see my school changed the dress code this year to make it to where we have to wear not only a certain color jacket, but we can’t have a hood on our jackets. Also, we can’t have designs. I myself believe in wearing whatever I like. I feel like I voice my opinion with what I wear and schools have changed that right. I mean, whenever you start working, your job might not have a dress code. And if it does or not, people still say whatever they need to, to get higher up in the workplace. So you may end up dealing with “bullying” then. Because apparently, dress code “helps bring down bullying” but if it does as it is said, then why do kids still get made fun of? Why are kids depressed? Certainly not just because of home issues. It also happens at school. So dress code may have changed some things, but it certainly hasn’t stopped every issue.

When we wear what we like, we are expressing our feelings through our clothes. But when we are in uniform, some kids don’t express how they feel, they bottle up their feelings and don’t tell anyone. They keep what’s happening all to themselves. And that’s not good for anyone, especially a kid. Back when I was in elementary school, I don’t remember having many problems with other students, and we could wear what we liked. So what exactly are you helping us with here? Another thing that’s been limited here is our creativity. Out of school, I immediately change, and when I do, I draw and let me tell you, I’m really good. In school, when I am told to draw, it’s stick figures. See?

Now back to the point, I am not saying “TAKE AWAY ALL THE DRESS CODE!” No, I’m not like that. All I’m asking for is a little more freedom. Like, instead of polo’s how about crew necks? In whatever colors the school chooses. And with the jackets? How about any solid color? With a design as long as it’s monochromatic? Sounds better, correct? It sure does to me. Because, I don’t know about you, but I would love to be able to voice my feelings a little more openly.
