The daily choices we make at home, work, and school all have a direct impact on the environment. We know that every choice we make today affects every one of us tomorrow. Why not do what we can now in order to collectively reduce our carbon footprints? That said, it has been brought to our teams’ attention that the Newnham Campus at Seneca College lacks accessible water fountains that are bottle-friendly. Although we are aware that there is a bottle-friendly filtered water system (courtesy of SSF) near the SeneCentre, it is important to highlight that there aren’t any in student high-traffic areas. The ones that are in place now are not clearly visible and do not allow students to completely fill up a drinking water bottle. Especially new and improved water bottles that are not only bigger in size but bpa-free for eco-friendly and reusable purposes. We are fully aware that the school does sell bottled water in the vending machines and at the cafeteria for an approximate range of $2-4 each. Nevertheless, we believe that students should not have to pay to hydrate themselves or go through an inconvenience in order to make a healthy choice. Our “ReUse & FreeUse Initiative @ Newnham” is committed to reducing disposable water bottles at our campus in order to make it a greener environment in which all students can benefit. Our project objective is to promote and increase the usage of reusable water bottles among students at Seneca. Our goal is to ask the school to implement hydration-stations that are bottle-friendly which will be installed at Seneca in a high-traffic area.
