If this doesn't reach 10, 000 Signatures, make 2 Years Optional for us. We can choose to continue for 2 Years of NS, or we can just stop after 1 Year. I'm sure that most, if not all, of us don't want to serve NS for 2 Years, no?
Better still, scrap the whole NS Idea and give us Freedom to choose if we want to serve NS or not. XD

If NS really turn singaporean boys into responsible and discipline young men, then why the hell are PAP bringing in FTs ? According to NS supporter logic, I think they are trying to imply that these FTs are irresponsible, ill-discipline and childish .... So why the hell import so many of these irresponsible, ill-discipline and childish people into the country ?

The alleged character growth which NS is said to provide (highly questionable) in no way justifies the existence of conscription. Please do also consider the opportunity costs at stake. Suppose we get to spend two years doing whatever we want instead -- we could be in university, or working, maybe even doing volunteer work. Now, are you extremely sure that these other activities will not nuture us in other ways too?
As for your accusation that guys against conscription are too weak to "face the music"... that's just a petty ad hominem, and it has no absolutely no bearing on the ethics or practical expedience of National Service.

NS experience is way overrated. I have spent more time sweeping leaves off the parade square and roads all because of the vanity and "wayang" nature of certain officers and scrubbing toilet floors than I have partaked in any physical training. And no, my MCs I took during the 2 years did not excuse me from any form of outfield training whatsoever. There are many ways to toughen up other than NS.

Kudos to Mr Tan Kin Lian. Totally agree on the reduction in reservist training and regimental training for IPPT failures. A massive unproductive use of time and resources on these activities. To top it off, men are forced to adopt a schoolboy haircut when they sacrifice their productive hours for reservist training. We are not career soldiers. We are free civilians and should be treated as such!

ere are my suggestions on what to do with reservist and remedial training.
After ROD from full time service, the reservist should be required to keep fit and go for reservist training for 5 years; after that, the reservist training should cease.
The reservist can be called up for another 10 years, but only in the event of a threat of war. At that time, they can be prepared for war. During peacetime, this will not be necessary.
If this change is made, we will have the following:
Active personnel, including conscripts - 70,000
Fit reservists, during 5 years of ROD - 100,000
Other reservists available for call-up during threat of war - 200,000
Total 370,000
This number should be sufficient, compared to the armed forces personnel of neighboring countries.

To be honest, I want to serve NS, but I also want to finish my studies as soon as possible. I have to go through 2 years of national service before I could return to Winnipeg to pursue my degree, I will be grateful if I only have to serve a year of NS. Besides that, I want the NS experience too.
