To: The President and Board of Directors, International College, Beirut Subject: Recommended Restorative Disciplinary Action for Student Malek Bilal Hamad (Grade 11) ⸻ I. Background and Context Following the recent disciplinary incident involving Grade 11 student Malek Bilal Hamad, it has been established that the student acted aggressively in response to provocation from an individual six years older. The altercation, while regrettable, occurred under emotionally charged circumstances and in a moment of self-defense. Mr. Hamad’s previous record of exemplary behavior, academic dedication, and positive engagement within the school community are undisputed. The incident appears to be an isolated lapse in judgment rather than a pattern of misconduct. Given these facts, and the school’s longstanding commitment to educating the whole person through justice, empathy, and moral development, we propose a restorative disciplinary response that addresses accountability while promoting growth and reintegration. ⸻ II. Findings and Considerations 1. The student is 17 years old, still in a critical stage of emotional and moral development. 2. Evidence indicates that the confrontation was provoked, and that the older individual involved has a documented history of violent or criminal behavior. 3. The incident has already caused significant emotional distress and public scrutiny that may have disproportionately affected the student’s reputation and well-being. 4. The student has expressed remorse and a willingness to make amends. 5. Permanent expulsion would constitute an irreversible educational disruption inconsistent with the school’s rehabilitative principles. ⸻ III. Recommended Disciplinary Measures To balance fairness with accountability, the following restorative actions are recommended: 1. Suspension and Reintegration • A 10-day suspension to mark the seriousness of the incident. • Reinstatement contingent upon the completi

You should help him not destroy his future i am against what happened but he is just a teenager and schools should help parents to teach kids how to defend their rights in the right way

I truly believe that every teenager deserves a second chance. At this age, mistakes are part of learning and growing. Expelling a student doesn’t correct behavior, it only hurts their confidence and future. I sincerely hope you can reconsider this decision and allow the student an opportunity to learn, improve, and feel supported. With appreciation and respect Samar hejeij

I do not agree that this boy should return to school. What kind of message are we sending to others if we allow this? He must learn to think before acting aggressively. Did he give the boy he hurt a second chance? Did he go through justice for what he did? This is not a simple mistake — it’s an act of violence, and it must be treated as such.

I wholeheartedly support this petition and join the call for compassion and fairness in reconsidering the disciplinary decision concerning Malek Bilal Hamad. Every student deserves the opportunity to learn from their mistakes within a nurturing environment that values growth and understanding. I trust that the school’s leadership will act with wisdom and empathy, upholding the values of justice and humanity that define our institution

It is imperative to emphasize that the incident in question was not the result of Mak's actions, as he bears no responsibility for the unfortunate circumstances that occurred. The evidence and sequence of events clearly indicate that the driver was at fault and must therefore be held accountable for his negligence and lack of proper judgment. Mak, on the other hand, has consistently demonstrated commendable behavior, strong moral character, and dedication as a student. It would be profoundly unjust to allow a single incident-caused by factors entirely beyond his control—to overshadow his reputation or jeopardize his future. Every individual deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and move forward, and Mak is no exception. He has shown himself to be a responsible, respectful, and promising young person, and it is only fair that he be granted a second chance, rather than having his life and potential tarnished by an event for which he holds no blame. Thank you
