Although I do agree with this, the rest of Stellenbosch is of equal importance. If all the debating and money goes just to campus security - the campus may get better but the town itself will get worse. I think both are equally important.

Stellenbosch is a university town and the safety of students should be a non negotiable.

Student (our children) deserve to be protected at all costs. Certain roads need to be closed to general public after specific hours. this needs to be investigated by the powers to be.

Stellenbosch is becoming a very dangerous town. I am not a student anymore but I know of the kidnapping and attempted theft that is arising. Just last night one of my friends got mugged after walking home from work. I personally feel unsafe to drive alone into town at night, with the knowledge of all the crime. I do believe that the young ladies and gents of this town should not walk or drive alone at night until a better security structure is put in place. Campus security can employ more guards to roam around campus on foot or on bicycle with tazers and batons. Spending lots of money to upgrade two or three cars for campus security is not necessarily going to make anything better, since the amount of guards stay the same. And buying more cars is spending more money on branding, fuel and then employment as well. I believe that the Stellenbosch security and the campus security should work together.

This is one of the most beautiful university campuses in South Africa, it is such a privilege to study here. But not while our well being is at risk!

The amount of crimes being committed in Stellenbosch is not just bothering the citizens but is also chasing away future students for the university

One of the biggest selling points of maties use to be the safety in sbosch and the freedom such safety brings. This is not true anymore.

Something has got to be done about the crime situation in Stellenbosch!

Exactly, they should be ashamed of themselves.

Completely agree. Apart from the wasted police resources, the drug war increases crime dramatically by increasing the price of drugs and funding organized crime.

I recently joined SUN, and have been shocked that the university management allows vagrants and beggars to roam freely on campus grounds. It is completely unacceptable, and shows how little concern they have for student safety and well-being. Well done for voicing you disapproval, especially given that left-liberals would happily brand you as heartless / prejudiced / privileged / fascist / insensitive / whatever.

We need more action towards less crime especially in regards to bicycle theft and physical harm to individuals.

Beter beligting in die aande sal 'n groot verskil maak. Daar is te veel donker plekke op kampus waar studente op 'n daaglikse basis rondbewees, bv tussen die ss brug en die neelsie.

Being safe is one of the most important human rights in this country. On this very moment I do not feel safe. Not even when I set foot out of my department or Residence/Flat. I am asking for a solution??
