We, the residents, community leaders, families, business owners, and supporters of Old Quaker Town and Southeast Denton, stand together in support of the continued protection, cultivation, and investment in Black-owned businesses that have long served as the heart of these historic communities.

For generations, Old Quaker Town and Southeast Denton have been more than neighborhoods — they have been places of resilience, culture, family, faith, entrepreneurship, and community pride. These areas have historically provided safety, opportunity, and connection for Black families who built lives, raised children, supported neighbors, and created lasting legacies despite systemic barriers and displacement.

Black-owned businesses in these communities are not simply storefronts. They are gathering places, economic lifelines, cultural landmarks, and symbols of generational perseverance. They provide mentorship, employment, support systems, and spaces where people feel seen, valued, and connected.

Among those businesses stands Hubb’s Grub — a true staple of the community and a reflection of what has always made this area special. Hubb’s Grub represents the spirit of family, hard work, hospitality, and neighborhood unity that generations of residents have depended on. It is part of the cultural identity of Southeast Denton and Old Quaker Town, and its presence continues to strengthen the bonds between longtime residents, new families, students, elders, and future generations.

These businesses are foundational to the stability and growth of our community. They create spaces where traditions are passed down, where children learn the value of ownership and leadership, and where residents can continue building a future rooted in dignity, culture, and collective support.

We believe:

* Black-owned businesses deserve equitable support, protection, and opportunity to thrive.
* Historic Black communities must be preserved, respected, and invested in rather than displaced or overlooked.
* Economic development should include and uplift the families and business owners who have sustained these communities for generations.
* Community-centered businesses like Hubb’s Grub are essential to maintaining the identity, history, and spirit of Southeast Denton and Old Quaker Town.
* Future generations deserve the opportunity to inherit thriving Black business districts, strong community values, and spaces that continue to affirm family, culture, and belonging.

We call on city leaders, local organizations, developers, residents, and community stakeholders to:

* Protect and preserve historically Black business corridors and cultural spaces.
* Invest in programs, grants, and resources that help Black-owned businesses grow and remain sustainable.
* Ensure community voices are included in future planning and development decisions.
* Recognize and honor the historical and cultural significance of Old Quaker Town and Southeast Denton.
* Support businesses like Hubb’s Grub that continue to pour back into the people and families of this community.

This petition is more than a request — it is a declaration that the history, culture, and economic future of Black communities in Denton matter. We are committed to preserving the legacy built by generations before us while creating stronger opportunities for generations to come.

Together, we stand for community.
Together, we stand for legacy.
Together, we stand for Black-owned businesses in Old Quaker Town and Southeast Denton.
