Petition to postpone demolition works in the Zebbug Pulic Library
The Zebbug Public Library has been undergoing refurbishment the past few months which have included excavation works for drainage and elevator pit and are now moving on to demolition of existing ceiling and internal walls. The library is located back to back with the state school's Kinder 2 wing, directly with the school yard, class Kinder 2.1/2.2 and the toilets. As from beginning June, class 2.1 is to move just a mere few metres to the adjacent class in preparations for works which include demolition of the library ceiling. We feel that these works should be postponed to the end of scholastic year, which would be only a month away from such date. This is because we feel that the safety of our class as well as all the classes in that wing (meaning Kinder 2) would be in jeopardy, even though we have been assured that all relevant health and safety risks have been evaluated by the relevant professionals.
As we know the school building is quite old and anything can happen when excavation and demolition works are undertaken, especially right next door! We also feel that uprooting the kids and merging them with another class is not ideal to their education as there will be too many students and teaching staff in one class. This will disrupt them unnecessarily and all the construction noise will also impede the learning activities. There is also the matter of construction dust which may affect the use of the yard and affect the health of students and teachers alike. In this regard, the best solution would be to postpone these dangerous and noisy works till the start of summer holidays.
This petition will be presented to the Mayor Mr Mark Camilleri.
