The new amendments will never in any way shape or form stop crime as the police lose or sell firearms at an astounding rate and do so with no repercussions as well as old stockpiles of weapons coming across the border that is not patrolled yet it is the law abiding citizen that is always targeted. Get this into you head... CRIMINALS DO NOT OBEY THE LAW!! Amending it will achieve nothing.

as government has already made a huge mess up with the firearm law of 2000 and now wishes to further destroy South African people's ability to own firearms by disguising it as stopping criminals if rom owning guns is a sham. As the police are loosing or selling firearms why not make it more punishable for them because at the moment they act with impunity. Leave the law abiding citizens alone.

The current FCA needs no changes to it. The current FCA needs to be implemented correctly and this is the core issue we face. The real issue in South Africa is the number of illegal and unregistered guns. No law abiding citizen is going to buy a gun and use it for criminal activity. Please focus on implementing the already very comprehensive FCA and focus more on fighting crime. Thank you.

the changes proposed will not and cannot succeed within South Africa my reason for making this opinion is that the current SAPS some members is not at all competent enough an assessment of the police force competency criteria is first to be done to assess the competency levels of all SAPS Officials. An unbiased audit must be done that is independent of the state. The criteria can be established but some recommendations is proposterous and actually open legal loopholes towards the SAPS if properly assessed. A parliamentary committee cannot decide by itself if the people are not called upon to voice their opinion. If competency levels of Police are assessed and work on competency is done we will have better control over illegal firearms. A broader perspective must also be taken into account. Open borders illegal immigrant and terrorist activities that is openly practiced within South Africa. Government must start doing its job and not make "recommendations" without sitting around the table with the difrent stakeholder representatives.
