Subject: Firm Opposition to Bail for the Accused – Justice for Mpho Mafole

We, the undersigned members of the South African public, urgently submit this petition to strongly oppose the granting of bail to any individual charged in connection with the violent and calculated murder of Mpho Mafole, a forensic auditor in service of the Ekurhuleni Municipality.

Mpho Mafole was a courageous and principled public servant who critically exposed corruption and financial misconduct. His life was cut short in a deliberate act of brutality. This was not just a personal tragedy, but an attack on the principles of justice, transparency, and ethical governance.

Granting bail to the accused would not only undermine public confidence in the justice system. Still, it would also present real threats, including the intimidation of witnesses, obstruction of justice, and the potential to tamper with vital evidence. It would send an unacceptable message that those who silence whistleblowers and anti-corruption officials can escape accountability.

We therefore demand:

  1. That bail be firmly denied to all individuals accused of the murder of Mpho Mafole.
  2. The seriousness of crimes against officials who uphold the law—particularly those who expose corruption be fully recognised and treated with the utmost gravity.
  3. That meaningful, ongoing protection be extended to whistleblowers, forensic investigators, and other public servants committed to defending the rule of law.

Mpho Mafole represented integrity and truth. His commitment must not be in vain. Let us honour her memory by standing decisively against impunity.
