Petition to Nullify a Penalty Wrongfully Imposed on Legon Hall Residents
In light of the latest directive from the management of Legon Hall, I write to bring to your notice a penalty imposed on residents in this directive. This imposition is compulsorily compelling residents to pay a GHS 20 penalty for not engaging in an optional and late-announced general cleaning of the hall last semester. Also in this directive, failure by a resident of the hall to pay this fine automatically forfeit his or her residential status in the hall.
We the residents of the hall feel we are being undeservingly exploited by the management yet we get the worst of services and not the best of environment to live in.
I humbly write to your office to intervene on the residents’ behalf regarding this imperative from the management and nullify the wrongfully imposed penalty.

I have spent my week talking to residents who are genuinely terrified of losing their housing over a charge that was never part of our contract. The silence from hall management remains total while they continue to enforce this unfair rule behind closed doors.

Seeing this level of support confirms that I am not the only one tired of these unfair demands. The weight of this momentum makes it impossible for the administration to keep ignoring what we are going through in our own rooms.

This is sort of inhumane in view that we're not given the due respect. It's more of we're in the primary or perhaps shs where students are restricted from going out. How do you expect someone who was not in school on that day to pay the 20 cedis? Moreover we don't seek permission or take exeat from anyone before we go outside campus. So where from all this. The necessary things are not even given much concern. We had water issues the whole of last semester. There's no wifi in the annexes and a whole sort of things but we pretend as if all is well. I don't even know why we have JCR.
I totally agree to the signing of such a petition because many of us were unaware of such an exercise and if ignorance on our part should attract a penalty, I believe a sum of 20 cedis being taken from such a huge number of students is rather too much, hence this matter should be thoroughly looked into. Students should also be made aware of what exactly the monies being collected will be used for.
Please with all due respect most of us wasn't around..it was our time to write the Interim Assessment and can we can not forsake IA for work which not announced
The clean up exercise was indeed late announced. Some members had exams that morning too. I was fully dressed and on my way to meet my mother at a function before I heard of the clean up. Imagine the inconvenience.
Students if we like or not are equally busy people and may not have time to be part of this. Also the fine imposed seems to be of making more money for the authorities if you ask me

This whole issue is absolutely ridiculous. The information was sent via whatsapp around 10pm on Friday.
