This is a petition on behalf of the 9 Sterling/CTC 8th grade students currently being disciplined for their online chat remarks. At this age it is well-known that their brains are still developing, and often times kids at this age will make impulsive decisions and take actions that don't reflect their true personality. Their hearts and demeanors are kind, the police agreed the threats were not credible, and we believe they don't deserve expulsion. We parents agree that the process of suspension, hearings and trials in front of a judge are ample punishment, and through this process all of these children and many others will have learned a valuable lesson. However, we also agree that expulsion would be excessive and not in the best interest of the children, the school, or their classmates.
