As referee "Big" John McCarthy has been heavily involved with the Ultimate Fighting Championship since its inception in 1993. As John McCarthy has refereed 1000's of bouts for the UFC including a significant number of title bouts. As Big John, has not only served as referee, but was was also instrumental in the creation of the most of the rules associated with Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). As many of the rules we take for granted today, were originated by Big John to ensure the safety of UFC fighters. As Big John has long been an advocate of improving officiating in MMA in general, and the UFC in particular; and to this end, has created Certification of MMA Officials for National Development (COMMAND)  a training course for referees and judges. As a former long-time UFC employee and official and having been instrumental in the promotion of the company and the brand, we the undersigned, his fans, feel that he is deserving of a place in the UFC Hall of Fame.
