Petition to keep the IMDB messageboards going

I understand that there are times threads on the message boards here for a given movie, TV show, or artist can devolve into insults and political rants. But overall, I prefer this method of communicating with others about movies, TV shows, or actors. It is much easier and convenient that the social media methods you want to use instead. Those will be impossible to search, and will not be as organized as the boards here, which are associated directly with a particular movie, TV show, or artist. The current boards are far easier to use than Facebook or Twitter could ever hope to be. I guess money is an issue, but having threads moderated would solve many of the problems you are trying to correct. I know IMDB administrators can delete and/or block comments and users, but I imagine that is difficult to do with a limited staff. Still, eliminating these boards is throwing the baby out with the bathwater. It will dilute the usefulness of the site, since many of us learn from the threads here. Please don't eliminate the boards. Doing so will only lessen the value of the site. Maybe you could force people to use real names here, instead of aliases? That method seems to have worked for YouTube, which also suffered from the same problems you are trying to correct.

This seems like a major mistake. I love the forums and IMDb is the first place I go to after watching a movie, or when wanting to learn more about it, partly due to the discussions. Sure, there is some bad content posted, but that can really not be avoided on the internet. I would use the site less if the forums were removed.

Every time I watch a new film, I go to IMDB, read the trivia, and then look at the message boards to see what others are saying about it. If I have any questions about the film or even just want to make an observation, I'll do it here. I'm not on Facebook, I shun social media, this is where I go. You can scan down the list of topics and if you see one you don't like or you're not interested in, you just don't open it, it's as simple as that. You have literally no reason to shut the message boards down, and IMDB will likely wither and die as a result.

The message boards are the most useful feature on imdb. Loads of information on upcoming films, tons of explanations, and many people discussing their opinion. Social medias such as Facebook or Twitter are completely unfit for such discussions. Please keep the boards, and just find a way to ban the few trolls without punishing the whole movie fans community!

I've been a member of Imdb in almost 15 years. I visit the message boards frequently. Imdb is closing the boards even though nobody is asking for it. Why hurt all members because of some trolls who you can block anyway?

To bad this petition won't have any effect, a big corp (Amazon) doesn't care if millions of people grew up visiting IMDB message board after watching a movie. I am closing my IMDB account, and never buying anything from Amazon ever again. We have to unite, and hitting where it hurts are their pockets.
