Petition To Keep Our Current Rules on Lac La Belle

I live on Lac la Belle. I do not own a wake boarding or a speed boat.

Wake surfing is annoying. More regulation for everyone is not the answer.

Proposed rules are too extreme without justification

Reactionary proposal that will backfire. There is no need for this when 99% there is no problem on the lake.

Slow the role

Eliminate wake surfing. Been living on the lake for 47 years and never had issues with normal boating activities. Since wake surfing showed up things have changed for the lake.

We have lived on Mary Lane for 47 years and we had no issues until Wake boarding was allowed. Ban Wake boarding and don’t punish everyone else!

Please leave the lake the way it is.

There is no reason to change the current rules and regulations on BLUE SPRING LAKE.

I own a home on Mary Lane, and I am opposed to the proposed large no-wake area. From my experience, wind and weather have a major impact on lake clarity. On windy days, the lake gets churned up and the clarity drops significantly. In my opinion, this appears to have a greater effect than boat activity. Has there been a study showing how weather impacts lake clarity compared with boat traffic? Without that data, I do not understand how the conclusion can be made that boats are the primary cause of reduced clarity. The proposed no-wake area would also significantly affect my family’s use of the lake. From my property, we would now have to travel more than 1,000 feet at no-wake speed before reaching open water. In addition, my kids would no longer be able to safely ride waverunners in the bay behind Mary Lane. Instead, they would be pushed into the busier middle portion of the lake, which raises serious safety concerns for me. I am also concerned about the proposal to limit wakeboats to 12:00–4:00 p.m. That is typically the busiest and most congested time of day on the lake, and it is the timeframe I generally try to avoid for safety reasons. Wakeboats also require deeper water, generally 15 feet or more, to operate properly. In the bay behind Mary Lane, wakeboats already have to operate at no-wake speed because of the shallow water, so they are not churning up the water there. Finally, I believe this proposal could negatively affect property values. A large no-wake area extending more than 1,000 feet from homes in the bay would make those properties less attractive to potential buyers. Lower property values would also reduce property tax revenue for Oconomowoc and Lac La Belle. For these reasons, I do not support the proposed large no-wake area and believe more data is needed before making such a significant change to lake use.

The proposed regulations would increase safety risks by limiting the amount of space that can be used for water sports. This is negligent behavior and highly concerning.

Taking away the rights of others just like in a communist country

As noted these changes are drastic and will significantly impact the ability of residents to enjoy the lake and will be a safety risk on busy weekends even if there were no launch boats

My family has lived on Lac la Belle since 1985 - my one sister owns the original house on Lakeland Drive. Another sister owns a house on Mary Lane. My wife and I live at 436 Lac la Velke Drive since 2017. We love the lake. We have noticed detioration in water quality as well as more weed growth as the years have gone by. Clearly the lake use has grown over time. That said, the lake continues to be quiet all week. There is no need for instituting radical changes during the week. Further, the no wake requirements you are suggesting take away the calmer waters for water skiers. We strongly feel the only issue is on weekends. We water ski daily with a group of four lake residents around 730 each day. When we go, generally there are at most 3-4 boats on lake. Why is it necessary to reduce that low of lake usage to the center of lake only??

Unreasonable, broad rule change that lacks intellectual fidelity. It’s a chainsaw instead of a scalpel
