Petition To Keep Our Current Rules on Lac La Belle
The Lac La Belle Management District is currently working to propose regulatory changes for the 2026 Boating season to include:
- 48% of the lake would be “Slow-No-Wake” (which means as slow as you can go to maintain steering)
- Drastic Restrictions to Wake Boarding / Wake Surfing / Tubing / Water Skiing
- The dark area of the map shows the area you will have left for any speed above Slow-No-Wake
- Recipe for Disaster! Same number of boats operating in half the lake size
The proposed rules and restrictions will significantly impact recreational boating. This effort is being rushed without adequate time for thorough understanding or input from all who utilize and enjoy Lac La Belle.
We, the undersigned residents, property owners, and stakeholders of Lac La Belle, respectfully advocate for the maintenance of current lake-use ordinances. We request that the Board refrain from adopting new restrictions or regulatory changes unless they are supported by clear, evidence-based justification and broad community consensus.
Our position is based on the following considerations:
1. The existing ordinances are functioning effectively.
The current rules governing boating, safety, and recreational use have provided a stable, predictable framework that supports safe enjoyment of the lake for all users. There is no demonstrated need for modification.
2. Proposed changes may create unintended consequences.
Altering established ordinances can introduce confusion, enforcement challenges, and inconsistent expectations for residents and visitors. Stability in lake regulations helps maintain safety, compliance, and community harmony.
3. The lake community values consistency and predictability.
Many residents have made long-term decisions including property use, recreation patterns, and shoreline management based on the existing rules. Sudden or unnecessary changes may disrupt these expectations.
4. No compelling evidence has been presented to justify a change.
To date, no data, safety reports, or environmental studies have shown that the current ordinances are inadequate or that modifications would improve lake conditions or public safety.
5. Community sentiment strongly favors maintaining the current rules.
This petition is signed by a wide variety of people who live on or use the lake. We believe the current ordinances strike an appropriate balance among all users.
