Danielle D’Anna has directly impacted my life and the lives of hundreds of students who she has come into contact with over her 15 years at Blake. She is a strong role model who instills leadership qualities and holds her students accountable for their actions. She is beyond qualified for her current position and is a cornerstone of what makes James Hubert Blake High School such a strong arts and humanities program here in Montgomery County. To lose her as a mentor and as an example for these students would be a grave and irreplaceable loss.

Mrs. D'Anna is one of the best dance teachers I have ever had. A great deal of my dance training came from her at BHS, and she also taught my older sister as well. I am now a working member of the performing arts community in New York City due to her guidance. If MCPS truly values the arts and cares about crafting successful performing artists, they will keep her position so that she can continue to inspire others the way she inspired me.

Mrs D has been a teacher and poms coach for my daughter Brianna Lopez for years. She is the reason both programs came to be one of the highlights at Blake. I would be disheartened to see her taken away from the program. My daughter excelled in both with hiker guidance and came back to coach poms last year to present. Please allow her to stay and continue to guide her students. She is passionate with her love for dance. My daughter did well in her classes as well as loved dancing. Any Casiano

It’s 100% unfair to have a new principle to Blake involuntarily transfer our only qualified dance teacher after 15 years at Blake. Blake is only 20 years old... Ms. D’anna coached poms who placed 1st at counties for many years, built Blake’s Dance Company to be what it is today, had students grow to dance professionally in Los Angeles for Rihanna and NERD. Ms. D’ Anna has had a huge positive affect on more students at Blake than Mr. Berry ever did and more than Mr. Sinclair will ever have. It hurts many to see the arts at Blake disappear as it is the Arts & Humanities School.

Mrs. D’Anna has helped me a lot in the 3 years I have been at Blake so far. Dance is a big deal for me and a lot of other students. It is a way for us to be ourselves without anyone judging us and Mrs.D’Anna has really helped in that aspect. She was someone that welcomed everyone and cared for a lot of people. She would do anything for her students and that is what makes her special. She built this dance compartment and for some people that is all they have. Mrs.D’Anna is the only teacher I really connected with and trusted, and it would be a shame for her to leave.

I learned more life lessons from Ms. D’Anna than I can count, and she taught me how to not only be the best dancer I could be, but the best person I could be. She is a huge part of the Blake community and it wouldn’t be the same without her.

The idea of pushing Ms. D'Anna out of Blake is beyond disgraceful. MCPS needs to cease its war on James Hubert Blake High School and leave the pillars of our arts community where they belong.
