We are a group of students who currently attend Durham College and are striving to make a change in our curriculum to assist future students. We are looking for signatures to encourage the college to add education regarding Media Literacy to programs.

With all the information outlets we have access to with television, and the internet; many of us really don't have the necessary skills to find and analyze information. More specifically we don't carry the skills to differentiate what information is useful and credible, and what is advertisement information to fuel a biased target audience. We believe it is extremely important that students are able to acquire these skills through education to further our understanding of information in the future. Any questions can be directed towards myself, Tegan at our Durham College Students- Media Literacy page. Please sign if you also think Media Literacy is something the school should introduce. Thank you.

kids these days just share whatever they see on facebook without checking if its real or fake news. this needs to be a core subject in college now because the internet is getting way too messy.

as the United States citizens continue to fall victim of propaganda it will make its way to Canada. We must all be informed on our world climate.

As more people use social media as their source for news, and quit accessing traditional sources like newspapers (see Catherine Wallace article in T.O Star 4.2.17), it becomes even more important to apply critical thinking skills to the news stories we watch, hear and read.
