We, the Adjunct Caucus of the Faculty Association of SUNY Adirondack (FAACC), positively support increased voting rights and adequate representation for adjuncts through the FAACC.

The FAACC is a group of SUNY Adirondack faculty—both full-time and part-time—that discusses and votes on matters that include but are not limited to faculty contract negotiations. Every FAACC member enjoys the right to vote at meetings. However, as it stands, an adjunct member’s vote is only counted as 1/5 of a full vote. The Adjunct Caucus of the FAACC firmly advocates that an adjunct’s counted vote at FAACC meetings should be increased from 1/5 to a half vote. As a result of this increase, adjuncts would be more adequately represented to the large negotiations committee of the FAACC, which is an advisory group to the small negotiations committee (“bargaining team”) of the FAACC.

On the small negotiations committee (“bargaining team”) there are three to five members who directly negotiate with the administrators of SUNY Adirondack. Currently, there are no adjuncts on this small negotiations committee and, therefore, no adjuncts at the bargaining table. The Adjunct Caucus of the FAACC firmly advocates that three adjuncts should be added to the small negotiations committee. As a result of this addition, adjuncts would have adequate representation during contract negotiations.

The purpose of this petition is to seek reaffirmation from part-time SUNY Adirondack faculty who are current members of the FAACC. Due to the timely nature of taking, drafting, and releasing a statement of position, this petition will make transparent the actions of the Adjunct Caucus in working alongside fellow FAACC members.

Please sign and affirm that you positively support the increase of an adjunct’s counted vote from 1/5 to a half vote at FAACC meetings and the addition of three adjuncts to the small negotiations committee (“bargaining team”) of the FAACC.
