We would like to see a change in the Respect and Diversity presentations during the Week of Welcome to include information specific to the Chumash Indians. They are the people indigenous to the land that Cal Poly is built on, and there is a need and desire for students to receive more information about the Chumash people.

We believe that there is an opportunity to reach a broad audience with this information if it is presented during the Week of Welcome. Every WOWie sees the Respect and Diversity presentation, and we want this change incorporated starting with the 2015 Week of Welcome.

Past speakers, like Fred Collins, have given important talks about Chumash history and culture to the WOW Leaders. We believe the largest impact would be made by presenting this information to the new students on campus, and it would make the information they receive about respect and diversity more complete.
