We, the undersigned students of LIFE University, are deeply concerned about the ongoing conditions in LIFE Village Retreat (LVR) and other campus housing facilities. As paying residents, we expect fair treatment, safe living environments, and accountability from Housing & Residence Life.

Instead, we have repeatedly experienced:

-Mold growth in multiple buildings, raising serious health concerns.

-Roaches and pests in common areas and private rooms.

-Hallways and common areas that are not cleaned regularly.

-Inadequate trash disposal, with bins near elevators in public spaces that are accessible not just to LVR residents, but also to any student, staff, or visitor using the parking garage.

-Threatening emails from Housing that impose collective fines on all residents rather than identifying responsible individuals.

-Rising housing costs each year without improvements in quality or safety.

-A housing agreement clause that explicitly states the University does not guarantee the safety of residents or their guests, leaving students vulnerable.

These conditions create an environment of neglect, stress, and financial burden that is unacceptable given the cost of housing.

Our Demands & Solutions

To address these issues constructively, we propose the following action plan:

1. Mold Prevention & Remediation

-Immediate professional mold inspections and remediation in all affected buildings.

-Regular air quality testing and transparent reporting of results.

-A proactive maintenance schedule to prevent recurring issues.

2. Pest Control

-Scheduled pest control treatments for all residential facilities.

-Clear reporting channels for residents to request immediate pest treatment.

3. Cleanliness of Hallways & Common Areas

-Daily or every-other-day cleaning schedules for hallways and common spaces.

-Posting of cleaning schedules so residents know when maintenance occurs.

4. Trash Management

-Larger and more frequent trash pickups to meet the needs of all 4 floors.

-Daily or alternate-day monitoring of public trash bins by Housing staff or Facilities.

-Acknowledgment that bins in the parking garage are a public access point, making it unreasonable and unfair to fine only LVR residents for trash in those areas.

5. Fair & Respectful Enforcement

-End the practice of collective fines when the responsible individual cannot be identified.

-Use cameras, RA observations, or staff monitoring to hold the actual violator accountable.

-Consistent and clear communication from housing to include a minimum 24hrs notice when fire alarm testing will be done.

-A public apology from Housing to residents for past threatening communications including the blanket fees that are not enforceable.

6. Transparency & Accountability

-Clear breakdown of how housing fees are used each year including what renovations are being done.

-Opportunities for open student forums or town halls with Housing leadership each quarter.

-Create an online form for Student Complaint form where students can document a formal complaint that requires 2-3 business days for follow up.

Conclusion

We are committed to working with LIFE University Housing to create a safe, clean, and supportive residential environment. Students should not have to endure mold, pests, neglect, and threats of unfair fines while housing fees continue to rise.

We call on Housing & Residence Life and University leadership to adopt this action plan, and we respectfully request written acknowledgment of these demands along with a timeline for implementation.
